Asphodel-Norwood ---Take advantage of free public computer training classes
and drop-in assistance offered at your Asphodel-Norwood Public Libraries.
Learn to use the Internet, library databases, and other software with
confidence!

The Asphodel-Norwood Public Library is proud to offer Summer computer
classes, free for patrons, to promote Electronic Literacy! The classes cover
computer basics, electronic communication, the Library Catalog, Microsoft
Word and Internet Searching.  Participants will work hands-on with the
computer during the session and will also receive handouts for home
practice.

These Electronic Literacy Sessions will be held at both the Westwood and
Norwood Branches (at select times), with seating available on a first-come,
first-served basis. Space is limited and re-Registration is REQUIRED for all
sessions. Handouts for each class are available in each branch at any time.
Handouts are particularly valuable for patrons wishing to refresh their
memory of skills learnt in class.

Computer Classes available at the Norwood Branch: Wednesday 10am-1pm,
Thursday 3pm-7pm
Computer Classes available at the Westwood Branch: Monday 3pm-6pm, Wednesday
3pm-7pm

Class Descriptions

Computer Comfort
This class offers beginning and hands-on training on the basic components of
computers, using the keyboard and the mouse, navigating in Windows, and
beginning Internet browsing.

Windows Basics/ Introduction to Basic Computing - Refresher
For anyone who needs a refresher on the basics of using a computer including
the mouse, desktop, and a simple explanation of Microsoft Windows.  Learn
about toolbars, drop-down menus, dialog boxes & file management.

Internet Searching
Tired of wandering through thousands of sites every time you surf the Web?
Let the pros teach you how to use subject directories and search engines to
search more easily and effectively. Computer Comfort class is strongly
recommended before taking this class if you are new to computers.

Library Catalog
This class covers the basic skills necessary to use the Library Catalog,
including searching by author, title, and keyword. You will also learn how
to place a hold, so bring your library card!

Introduction to E-mail
Learn how to get a free e-mail account, work with attachments, view
pictures, spam, and
basic security.  In this two-part session you will sign up for a free
Internet e-mail account using Yahoo! and then learn how to check your
e-mail, send messages, and reply to messages. In the second session you will
learn about sending and downloading attachments, working with folders,
saving drafts, and using the address book. Computer Comfort Class is
strongly recommended before taking this session if you are new to computers.

Microsoft Word

Would you like to learn how to use Microsoft Word to write letters, papers,
resumes, and much more? Learn the basics of word processing with this class!
This session shows you how to use Microsoft Word to create, format, and
print documents.
Cutting and pasting, inserting images, tables, and some other tools are
covered. Computer Comfort class is strongly recommended.

 

Summer 2006 Computer Classes:  Schedules will be available at both libraries
first week of July. Sessions are 1 hour in length unless specified
otherwise. Pre-Registration is REQUIRED for all classes.
