The building department is responsible for issuing building permits and for providing inspections.
To obtain a building permit please contact the building department to make an appointment.
When is a Building Permit Required?
The property owner is required to obtain a building permit for the following:
- construction of a single family dwelling
- construction of a detached building which exceeds 10 m2 (107.6 square feet) in size
- raised decks or porches which are greater than 600 mm (23.6") above finished grade
- an addition of any size to an existing structure
- the change of use of a structure
- demolition of an existing structure
- partitioning a basement or adding a basement entrance
- altering or adding any plumbing
- moving or lifting a building
- installation of a summer pool (in ground or above ground)
- installing a wood stove, fireplace or an outdoor solid fuel burning appliance
